Meet Alex Szablya

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” – Viktor E Frankl

Since childhood, Alex dreamed of becoming a psychotherapist. She was first inspired by Virginia Satir’s Peoplemaking and later by Karl Jung’s Memories, Dreams, Reflections. She fulfilled her dream after graduating from Seattle University with a Master’s inPsychology and opening her solo practice.

Over time, she noticed that many couples were looking for a healthier, more fulfilling way to relate to one another—one that could help them let go of lingering pain, strengthen their connection, and build a more loving life together.

Because of this, Alex designed her work around helping couples understand and address the deeper needs beneath their hurt, and around repairing the old wounds that can keep couples from thriving. Helping couples grow, heal, and reconnect this way has become the purpose of her life’s work.

Alex begins by focusing on what already works in her clients’ relationships. She identifies the strengths and positive habits they’ve built on their own, then uses evidence-based approaches to strengthen communication, trust, and loving appreciation.

Once those solid foundations are in place, Alex helps her clients draw on their progress to work through earlier life experiences, reduce emotional cycles of conflict, and release holdovers that can weigh on a relationship. With her thoughtful, creative approach, couples can move from feeling stuck to feeling hopeful, from fear to safety, from frustration to joy, and from isolation to deeper intimacy.

  • We Were Able to Make the Choice We Decided Was Best for Us

My girlfriend and I were having trouble trying to make a big decision about whether to move to NYC to be closer to her parents or to stay in Seattle closer to mine. Working with Alex over the course of two days allowed us to explore the different challenges we’d face with either decision and were able to make the choice we decided was best for us. (We moved!)

My husband and I were afraid we were on the brink of divorce. We were seriously worried we weren’t going to make it. Alex’s guidance reminded us how much we love each other. In two short days we reconnected to the reasons we’re a couple and how deep our love really is.
